Creek Week is a week-long celebration of local waters throughout North Carolina, and usually takes place in the triad in the spring. In conjunction with multiple environmental organizations and local municipal departments, creek week offers recreational, educational, and volunteer opportunities to allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy and contribute to healthy waters in their area. The event is modeled after successful creek weeks hosted by several counties, including Forsyth and Durham, with events organized into three categories: Fun, Help, and Learn.
With everything from family fishing programs, water treatment plant tours, guided hikes, and outdoor movie nights to park and stream clean-ups, rain garden workshops, and more, each event is an opportunity to educate residents and to build awareness around the importance of our water resources. Stormwater SMART played a pivotal role in coordinating the 2018 First Annual Alamance Creek Week which offered 30 events and activities for all ages to engage with and learn about water resources.
