Open space refers to land that is intentionally left undeveloped or managed for purposes such as agriculture, recreation, conservation, or the protection of natural, historic, and scenic resources. Examples of open space include forests, farms, parks, greenways, nature preserves, meadows, and floodplains.
Public input from the High Point 2045 Comprehensive Plan revealed strong support—80% of respondents—for a growth pattern that focuses new development within mixed-use districts and activity centers, while limiting outward expansion. This vision highlights the importance of preserving the land between these centers, as well as outlying areas, as open space.
To be successful, this initiative must be a regional effort and include support from other Triad cities and counties.
