Celebrate National Trails Day® June 7

Be sure to make time to get out on a trail on June 7th to Celebrate National Trails Day®. The American Hiking Society has designated this as a day of service for hometown trails and the people who love them. Check out some trail guides from Piedmont Legacy Trails.

Also, if looking for trails and more outdoor recreation, be sure to visit NC Triad Outdoors. You can find all kinds of recreation options in the NC triad to visit on National Trails Day or any day of the year.

This is also a good opportunity to give a nod to The Great Trails State Coalition working to promote and fund trails across the Great North State so our trail experiences can be preserved and improved with the needed investments for trail preservation and implementation.

If you need assistance with trails in your area, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the planning department at PTRC.

Stokes Co. Recreation & Parks Comprehensive Plan

Stokes County, in collaboration with the PTRC Regional Planning Department, is in the process of creating a Recreation and Parks Comprehensive Plan. We are seeking public feedback on the state of the County parks system and ideas for the future of the parks. If you live in Stokes County or frequent their parks, please take a few minutes to complete our survey! More Information ➡️

The Piedmont Triad Regional Council was awarded a US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safe Roads and Streets for All (SS4A) grant to develop a Safety Action Plan. Working with NCDOT and area jurisdictions, the project team will develop a comprehensive plan for preventing traffic fatalities and serious injuries by using a Safe Systems Approach for roadways where needed, educating people about traffic safety, and enacting safety focused policies among other strategies.

Please click here to take a 5 minute survey about transportation issues in your community.
FOR MORE INFORMATION

The Piedmont Triad Regional Council is a founding member of the newly designated Piedmont and Coastal NC Clean Communities Coalition. The NC Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) has successfully completed the process for the Piedmont and Coastal NC Clean Communities Coalition to become a U.S. Department of Energy-designated coalition in the Clean Cities and Communities partnership. The Coalition will provide clean energy and alternative fuel resources to communities within 57 counties located in Central and Eastern North Carolina. Through the Coalition’s initiatives, NCCETC will be working with private and public stakeholders in those counties to reduce transportation related emissions, increase economic development, and improve public health.

The Clean Cities and Communities partnership was created to enhance the nation’s energy, economic, and environmental security. By convening partnerships between public and private stakeholders, Clean Cities and Communities coalitions share resources pertaining to alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies that lead to a reduction in fuel use and related air pollution.

ENGAGEMENT & INVOLVEMENT

Stormwater SMART Participates in the NCHE Conference

Stormwater SMART’s educational staff recently participated in the Thrive! NCHE Annual Homeschool Conference in Winston-Salem, where they shared engaging watershed and pollution prevention information. Visitors discovered how to make the most of free statewide programs in North Carolina, such as ecoEXPLORE and NC Stream Watch. Both kids and adults enjoyed sampling hands-on, DIY activities, received a free H2O-themed activity book, and learned about the educational programs we offer—including the EnviroScape, Watershed Game, and Water Quality? Ask the Bugs!
