-
Retroactive applicability to zoning decisions made 6 months prior that are not in compliance
-
May conflict with state requirements that may be in place to preserve water quality or public safety
-
Impacts to extra territorial jurisdiction and voluntary annexation processes
-
Barriers to updating and amending land use regulations in response to community and market needs that may support recently adopted plans
-
Unintended impacts to the zoning entitlements process
-
Undermines local governments’ ability to implement long-term planning strategies
-
Complications to the development and application of new regulations
We encourage our regional member governments to stay engaged with the Regional Council, NC Planning Association and others to learn what these changes mean to how we implement planning and zoning on the local level. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Regional Planning Director, Jesse Day, at jday@ptrc.org.
