Home MenuRegional Brownfields Redevelopment Program
The Piedmont Triad Regional Brownfields Redevelopment Program launched in 2006 when the Region was awarded its first assessment grant from the EPA. The Piedmont Triad is a region of old mill towns with plenty of opportunities for redevelopment that will increase tax base, create jobs, and provide more recreation, housing and transportation choices.
Goals
- Inventory potential brownfield sites (such as abandoned buildings and/or sites throughout the region that have a perceived contamination);
- Assess properties (Phase I and Phase II) that have a high economic development potential for attracting new jobs and/or adding tax base to our communities;
- Provide resources for site clean-up; and
- Assist communities in redeveloping targeted sites.
EPA Brownfields Grants and Cycle
Grants offered by the Brownfields Program may be used to address sites contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants (including hazardous substances co-mingled with petroleum) and petroleum.
This program often participates in Assessment Grants (to provide funding for brownfield inventories, planning, environmental assessments and community outreach) and Revolving Loan Funds (to provide funding to capitalize a long-term program for issuing loans and subgrants that are used to clean up brownfield sites). Currently, we are only offering Revolving Loan Funds (see section below). To learn about the various funding types from the EPA, visit: Types of Grant Funding.
Revolving Loan Clean-Up Fund
Piedmont Triad Brownfields Program operates a revolving loan fund (RLF) for clean-up activities. The Piedmont Triad Regional Council, Central Pines Regional Council and the West Piedmont Planning District in Virginia can assist in eligible brownfields clean-up activities.
