Congratulations to Buddy Boggs
The PTRC presented the Grady Hunter Award for Regional Excellence to Buddy Boggs, outgoing Mayor of Haw River at its December 18, 2019 Board of Delegates’ meeting.
PTRC presents the Grady Hunter award to a current PTRC board member who demonstrates dedication and service to the region. The award is named in honor of the late Mr. Grady Hunter, a long-time Yadkin County Commissioner and member of the Council’s Board of Delegates for 19 years. The award honors an individual dedicated to public service and the local issues facing the Piedmont Triad region.
It is with great pride that we announce this year’s choice as outgoing Haw River Mayor and long-time PTRC Delegate, Mr. Buddy Boggs. Buddy is the first elected official from Haw River to receive this award. Born and raised in Haw River, he attended Elon College and graduated from Burlington Business College with an accounting degree. Buddy has served on the PTRC Board of Delegates for 22 years with nearly perfect attendance. He is a faithful public servant who is an engaged and active member. The PTRC Board of Delegates will miss his leadership.
Mayor Boggs honorably served in the United States Air Force for 30 years retiring with the rank of Command Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). He was elected to the Haw River Town Council in 1997 and served as Mayor from 2001 to 2019. An active Haw River community member, he is enthusiastically involved in the Haw River United Methodist Church, Treasurer of the Haw River Community Cemetery Committee, Member of the Haw River Senior Citizen Club, and Member of The Haw River Historical Association.
