Post Date:12/23/2019 1:31 PM

The PTRC presented the 2019 Grady Hunter Award for Regional Excellence to Steve Yokeley, Mount Airy Commissioner and outgoing PTRC Board Chairman at its December 18, 2019 Board of Delegates’ meeting.

PTRC presents the Grady Hunter award to a current PTRC board member who demonstrates dedication and service to the region. The award is named in honor of the late Mr. Grady Hunter, a long-time Yadkin County Commissioner and member of the Council’s Board of Delegates for 19 years. The award honors an individual dedicated to public service and the local issues facing the Piedmont Triad region.

It is with great pride that we announce this year’s choice as Mount Airy Commissioner and PTRC Delegate, Mr. Steve Yokeley. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in Dentistry and has dedicated years of service to the City of Mount Airy. Steve has served on the PTRC Board of Delegates for seven years and as the Board Chairman since 2017.

Steve is best described as a "man of service." He practiced dentistry during his time as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy. After retiring from dentistry he started his own real estate business and dedicated his life to serving others through the Lions Club, Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, First Presbyterian Church as a deacon and an elder, Surry County Realtors, Mount Airy City Commissioner, and past Mayor Pro-Tem, and many charitable and civic organizations.

We thank you for the terrific job you did as the Chairman of the PTRC and for all the ongoing work you do to make this region a better place to live and work.
