Post Date:03/11/2019 10:03 AM

We all know that volunteering is a great way to give back to our communities.  But, did you know that volunteering could help you as well?  Volunteering can help you reduce stress, combat depression, connect with new friends, learn new skills and even lead to new career opportunities.  If you have a passion for helping others, a caring spirit and a willingness to learn, we need you!  Join your local Community Advisory Committee and help improve the quality of life and care for residents in a long-term care facility near you.  No prior experience is required.  The Ombudsman program will provide the training, tools and ongoing support.

Community Advisory Committee members for Nursing Homes and Adult Care Homes are trained volunteers appointed by their county Boards of Commissioners to be advocates for residents in Nursing Homes, Adult Care Homes, and Family Care Homes.  Volunteers make regular visits to long-term care facilities in their local areas and speak with residents to help ensure that they are aware of their rights and identify any concerns.  Appointees must be 18 years or older and reside in the county that they serve.  CAC members cannot have an immediate family member residing in or employed by the type of home that their committee covers, nor can they have a financial interest in a long-term care facility.

Serving on a Community Advisory Committee can be an extremely rewarding experience. Benefits include:

  • Flexible volunteer hours.
  • The opportunity to meet new friends.
  • Building connections with your community.
  • Growth as a person.
  • Knowing that YOU can make a difference!

Make a difference in the lives of those living in long-term care.  Join the Community Advisory Committee!  For more information about joining the Community Advisory Committee in your area, contact the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program at (336) 904-0300.
