The Piedmont Triad Regional Council’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In 2025, federal funding for the HCV program did not fully match the increase in per unit cost (PUC) borne by public housing authorities. As a result, in 2025 many PHAs experienced a shortfall of funding that is expected to carry over to the 2026 fiscal year.

Due to this anticipated shortfall, PTRC must take steps to maintain the viability of the HCV program in our communities. We have closed waiting lists in all four counties (Davie, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin) and need to temporarily suspend rent increases effective January 1, 2026. Notification to landlords and participants will be provided once updates are available.
