What is the Weatherization Program?

The Weatherization Assistance Program helps low income, elderly, or disabled residents in seven counties in the Piedmont Triad (Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Person, Randolph, and Rockingham) save energy and reduce their utility bills by improving energy efficiency.

The program makes sure that Piedmont Triad residents have reliable, efficient, and safe ways to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  In addition, the US Department of Energy has documented that homes receiving weatherization assistance saved an average of $215 per year on energy bills.  That is savings that can be counted on year after year.

Weatherization assistance is available for most types of housing -- single family homes, duplexes, condominiums and mobile homes. You do not have to own your own home to be eligible. Renters must have written permission from their landlord.

Documents Needed to Apply

  1.  Copy of photo ID or Drivers license - Address must   match requested service location
  2.  12 month utility history - Electric and gas
  3.  12 month income information - For all households members
  4.  Property Tax Record Card for the home, recorded at   the county court house where the home is located.

*PTRC will help you locate and provide these and other documents during the application process.

The Piedmont Triad Community Development department offers other housing services aside from this free weatherization program. Please see the link below to our other programs.
