The PTRC is monitoring COVID-19 and incorporating operational modifications as needed to protect the citizens we serve, our members, our partners, and our staff. Our office will re-open on Monday, May 18th to staff, however, the office is still closed to visitors without a prior appointment. Where applicable, meetings will continue to be held via teleconference. Staff will be available via phone and email. More
Have fun, win prizes, and learn about our natural environment by joining a Spring BioThon on iNaturalist.org! From now through June 19, take pictures of wild plants and critters and upload them to iNaturalist for a chance to win a lunchbox, a one-of-a-kind painted rock from a Greensboro artist, and other prizes in every one of our six counties!
1. Download the iNaturalist app on your mobile device and create an account (or do so at www.inaturalist.org)
2. From the “More” tab, click on Projects and join the Spring 2020 BioThon where you live: ALAMANCE, DAVIDSON, FORSYTH, GUILFORD, RANDOLPH, or ROCKINGHAM. (You can join more than one if you are between counties.)
3. Anytime between April 23 and June 19 (the last day of spring), go out and observe wild animals and plants. Snap photos, identify the organism (the iNaturalist database will make suggestions and your hosts will help too), add your location, and save your observation.
If you have any questions or experience any problems at all, please email email@example.com. We will contact winners by messaging through iNaturalist. This contest is for educational purposes only and we respect your privacy. Winners will be chosen based on the number of different species documented (as tallied by iNaturalist) and honorable mention prizes will be chosen from our favorite observations of aquatic animals or native plants.
CAUTION: If you go to a public park or waterway, please remember to look for hazards and follow CDC guidelines for protection against Covid-19. Stay safe, learn, and have fun!
